I recently traveled to Costa Rica during its dry season, which meant that I would be spending long days on the beach, in the water, and under the hot sun. To prepare for my trip, I headed to Target to update my stretched-out, faded, ill-fitting swimsuit collection with some new flattering pieces, and the retailer did not disappoint. I landed on four new styles that I practically lived in for my week-long stay, and right now, you can get them starting at just $15 at Target.
To get ready for swimsuit season, Target has more than 3,000 options for every style preference, and they’re up to 30 percent off like this one that’s designed with chlorine-, sunscreen-, and sweat-resistant fabric so it lasts longer. You can find one-pieces, bikinis, swim rompers, and more made with high-quality fabric for beach visits and pool time. Grab my Costa Rica swimwear and more top picks below.
Kona Sol Shirred Front One-Piece Swimsuit
I wanted a simple black swimsuit for my Costa Rica trip, and this one from Kona Sol fit the bill. I loved that I could wear it with just a pair of jean shorts to look like a basic tank top but with all the benefits of a swimsuit. It has lightly molded cups and shirring on the sides and front that flatters and defines my figure, and it’s stretchy enough with adjustable straps so I can get a perfect fit. I also appreciate that this one provides full coverage for my backside, which adds to the swimsuit’s comfort. Shoppers also “love the style, the coverage, the fit, and the tapered sides” that make it “so flattering.”
Cupshe Scallop Trim One-Piece Swimsuit
On sale in the black color that I own, this swimsuit adds interest to the basic black style. The cutout design had the ideal opening for me — it’s just enough to still offer high-rise tummy coverage while showing off a bit more skin above the belly button. The scallop trim perfectly hugs my skin, and it has removable cups that I took out to make it fit more closely to my body. The backside is a bit more cheeky than the shirred one-piece without exposing too much.
Shade & Shore Ribbed Bandeau One-Piece Swimsuit
To avoid tan lines, I often reached for this bandeau swimsuit that comes with removable spaghetti straps that I reattached when I was more active while wearing it. It’s also designed with some compression plus shirring and a ribbed texture for a flattering silhouette and has removable cups that provided me with decent support. Since it’s just $25 at Target, I may grab it in a few colors ahead of summer. One customer liked that “it can double as a top,” which helped them “to pack light” for a trip to Mexico. They also noted that it’s “so flattering.”
Shade & Shore Longline Ribbed Bikini Top
As someone in their 40s, I do tend to lean toward one-piece swimsuits lately, but I couldn’t pass up this bikini top and matching bottoms. The longline top is a compromise between a tankini and a bikini, and it felt secure (and doubled as a sports bra) even as I was more active while snorkeling and hiking. Both the top and bottoms are just $15 each, so you can grab multiple colors if you want to mix and match. The set is “very comfortable and fits amazing,” per one reviewer.
